From the

SIERRAS, THROUGH CALLEGUAS, TO SOUTHEASTERN VENTURA COUNTY

Construction for the State Water Project commenced in 1960 and is considered a modern feat of engineering.
Water supplies from the State Water Project began flowing into the Calleguas service area in 1972.
The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD) sits at the end of the State Water Project’s West Branch.
MWD’s Jensen Treatment Plant treats and distributes SWP water from here to Ventura County, the Valley, and southwest Los Angeles.
Calleguas imports and distributes imported water obtained from Metropolitan to 19 southeastern Ventura County water providers for their customers. About 75 percent of Ventura County residents receive all or part of their potable water from Calleguas.
Although the Colorado River Aqueduct is a significant source of MWD’s imported supply, it only accounts for up to 15 percent of Calleguas’ water supply during dry years.
